If you are a follower and participate in Lent, what are your plans for this year? Do you have traditions that you follow or will you try something new?
With our family, we're trying to figure out how to teach our children about this important season. They are still young, but there are ways to incorporate activities and traditions. What's hard is to create the tradition. It's not easy, especially when being a practicing Catholic puts you in the cheap-seats with the general public. This isn't meant to be a cruel statement or judgement, but it's true when looking at the struggles between tradition and modern day families and faith.
We're going to attempt grace at dinner-time with the boys and I personally am giving up Caribou Coffee. Grace is something we've been trying to start at dinner for the longest time, but it's difficult. When you've got kids ansy for one thing or the other ...or just trying to get them at the table... it's worked, but is a challenge sometimes. It's also hard when your close relatives don't do this, so it can be awkward and then we just forego without. However, when friends come over, it's totally different. What does this mean?
I'm also planning on posting journal-like entries here or on Facebook. As for the rest of my family? Well, my side doesn't practice and isn't Catholic, so they don't really do anything at all, which is okay. The other side? Well my husband doesn't say much on the topic except "send me suggestions." He means well and his faith at a deeper level is much more private, and that's okay too.
