Ride with Me

Over the past few weeks, we've been looking into purchasing a bicycle trailer for our little apprentice to ride along in. While many just paused and criticized us, "what were you thinking..." we decided to do it anyways. So many have said it's too dangerous for him as he is only 5 months old. Firstly, my main response is, don't you think we thought about that? We don't want to put our son in danger!!! I guess their response is due to the assumption that we ride on busy streets. We don't plan on it. We plan on strictly staying on bike paths.

We've looked at various models as well as reviews. At first we were going to go the cheap route and buy a model from Target. They only cost about $140. However, due to my husband's hesitation, we delayed the purchase. Thankfully, he was smart to hesitate, as those models are not safe for any child. There are no reinforcements on the sides and the material is not that great either. So we heard about a Bike Swap that was taking place this week. We went after Alex got off work, but the only trailer they had was a bit worn out. So we decided to take a look at Erik's. We were still in the reviewing mode and not just yet ready to purchase, but Erik's just happened to have last year's model of the Burley. They were selling them 50% off. In addition the guy there let us "try" it and put Devlin in to see how he'd fit. He also showed us how to put the carseat in as well. So after about an hour there, we decided that a) buying used or cheap isn't always the best way to go b)buying new would let us have the 2 year warranty and the knowledge that it had never been ill-used. So, after the safety-check, we bought the Tiger d'lite.

Well, we had one test run on Thursday evening just on our private drive. He did just fine and did not slide around. On Friday we biked two miles! He did just fine and fell asleep in the back. My little dreamer. It worked out really well. I really like that it is yellow and has a safety flag. He seemed very content and when we got home, he stayed in the Burley for a few more minutes for some pictures.

Biking with the Burley is not all that hard. Turning is a bit difficult, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually a great ride. Definitely a work out!

Our plan is to bike at least once a week, but more if we can. But I'm being realistic here. We're still trying to make it to the YMCA as well, so we'll do our best.
